Today, American Oversight announced the addition of two veteran oversight leaders to its executive team, strengthening the organization’s strategic and legal capacity amid rising threats to democratic institutions. Krista Boyd joins the organization as General Counsel and Vice President of Strategy, and Peter Kenny has been named Vice President of Litigation and Investigations.
Since January, the nonpartisan watchdog has been at the forefront of holding the Trump administration accountable — filing high-profile public records lawsuits in the Signalgate scandal and challenging its politically motivated attacks on Harvard University. The group is also representing a dozen members of Congress in a lawsuit to defend their right to inspect ICE detention facilities without prior notice.
“Krista and Peter bring unmatched expertise, integrity, and strategic insight to our team at a time when the stakes for government transparency and accountability couldn’t be higher,” said Chioma Chukwu, Executive Director of American Oversight. “Their deep understanding of oversight, transparency laws, and the inner workings of our democratic institutions will strengthen every facet of our work — from aggressive investigations and impactful litigation to bold strategic initiatives that hold power to account.”
Boyd brings decades of experience in government oversight and accountability, having most recently served as the Inspector General of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management — a presidentially appointed and Senate-confirmed role. In that position, she led audits and investigations that identified hundreds of millions of dollars in potential savings by exposing waste, fraud, and abuse.
Prior to her confirmation, Boyd served as Chief Counsel for Oversight and Policy and General Counsel for the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, where she played a key role in high-profile congressional investigations and helped craft major legislative reforms, including the FOIA Improvement Act — the last significant overhaul of FOIA — the Inspector General Empowerment Act, and the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act.
Kenny, who has been with American Oversight since January, steps into the position of Vice President of Litigation and Investigations. He brings with him more than a dozen years of experience in senior oversight roles in the U.S. House of Representative, U.S. Senate, and White House.
Before joining American Oversight, he served as Special Assistant to the President and Director of Oversight at the White House. Previously, he held several senior roles on Capitol Hill, including Chief Counsel for the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, where he led high-profile investigations and helped manage the committee’s litigation portfolio — including the landmark Supreme Court case Trump v. Mazars. His work has advanced transparency and government accountability at the highest levels.
