American Oversight Statement on Carl Icahn Investigation

American Oversight released the following statement after reports that Trump administration advisor Carl Icahn had been subpoenaed by the U.S Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York regarding his role in influencing biofuel policy.

Docket Number 17-1261

American Oversight released the following statement after reports that Trump administration advisor Carl Icahn had been subpoenaed by the U.S Attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York regarding his role in influencing biofuel policy:

“Carl Icahn’s role in the administration – lobbying from the inside on behalf of regulatory changes that would save him hundreds of millions of dollars – is the epitome of the Washington swamp that candidate Trump pretended to campaign against last year,” said American Oversight’s Executive Director, Austin Evers. “It’s critical that prosecutors get to the bottom of Icahn’s involvement in the administration and uncover why, and how, he was given so much access despite the obvious ethical concerns.”

American Oversight has investigated Carl Icahn’s unusual influence in the Trump administration, submitting multiple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, and suing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in June when they failed to produce the requested records. A federal judge has ordered the EPA to produce documents to American Oversight on November 16th detailing Mr. Icahn’s role at the agency.
