American Oversight Letters to Elon Musk and Multiple Federal Agencies Warning Against the Unlawful Destruction or Removal of DOGE Communications

American Oversight letters to Elon Musk and the Departments of Defense, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Treasury, Veterans Affairs, the Office of Management and Budget, and the National Archives and Records Administration warning them to preserve all records related to President Donald Trump’s newly created “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE). The letters, which warn that failure to take immediate action to recover all federal records could violate the Federal Records Act, were sent following news reports that DOGE members have been secretly communicating using Signal, an encrypted messaging app with an auto-delete feature.
