American Oversight v. Department of Justice – Emil Bove Records
American Oversight lawsuit against the Justice Department for records related to Emil Bove in light of allegations of serious professional misconduct.
Lawsuit filed by American Oversight against the Justice Department for records related to Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, including communications with or about Stephen Miller and Kash Patel, records related to the implementation of the Alien Enemies Act, and notes from a January 2025 meeting during which Bove allegedly negotiated the dismissal of corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
The lawsuit comes after serious whistleblower allegations of misconduct by Bove — nominated by President Trump for a federal judgeship — including allegedly instructing department attorneys to defy court orders and mislead federal judges so as to speed up deportations. In February 2025, American Oversight filed a formal bar complaint against Bove for his role in dismissing criminal charges against Adams in exchange for Adams’ political cooperation, and in late June renewed its request to the New York Attorney Grievance Committee for an investigation into his potential professional misconduct.
